# Manual entry

> Create manual meters and enter utility or waste readings when automated data sources are not available in EnerG

Manual entry covers meters that lack [Arcadia](/products/energ/data-sources/arcadia) feeds or [CSV](/products/energ/data-sources/csv-uploads) history. Add the data source at the portfolio level, then open **Manual Entry** from [Building data sources](/products/energ/buildings/data-sources) to create meters and enter readings for one building.

## Add the manual entry data source (portfolio)

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Data Sources">
    In the portfolio left sidebar, click **Data Sources**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the source">
    Click **+ Add Data Source**. Select **Manual Entry** from the **API** dropdown, complete the required fields, then save.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  The **Manual Entry** source appears in **All Data Sources** after creation.
</Check>

## Open Manual Entry from the building view

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select a building">
    From [Portfolio Home](/products/energ/analytics/benchmarking), open a building in the building view.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Manual Entry">
    Expand **Data Sources** in the left sidebar. Under **All Data Sources**, click **Manual Entry**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The **Manual Entry** page shows **PRIVATE** visibility and a **Meters** tab. Use it for waste streams, pilot meters, or any commodity you enter by hand.

## Meters tab

The **Meters** tab lists every manual meter linked to the building.

The table shows each meter's level, service type, unit, and status. For column definitions, see [Meter table columns](/products/energ/reference/data-and-meter-fields#meter-columns).
