# Asset Linking

> Link discovered and existing assets prevent duplication.

**Asset linking** is the process of merging duplicated assets into a single unified asset, removing duplicates and ensuring each asset is represented only once.

Linking relies on predefined configurations, namely [field mapping](/products/assetops/assets/configurations#field-mapping) and [matching rules](/products/assetops/assets/configurations#matching-rules), to define asset field matching parameters and prioritize a data source.
